I reserved TWO weekends in Sutton Loop D and will cancel canceled one of them after more feedback from the family. This is a gift from Doris Sinclair (from the funds Michelle inherited). To decide which one to cancel, I need everyone to answer BOTH questions:
-
Can you join us at Sutton 10-13 July 2025?This one is canceled! -
Can you join us at Sutton 24-27 July 2025?
This one will be it!
Speaking/writing from apparently faulty memory, I gave at least one person wrong info about our votes. The correct info follows, along with more information about the site:
Lake of the Woods was first choice for five of our sixteen votes and second or third choice for no one. Their website is not designed for group reservations, but going through it for 17-20 July 2025, I found ONE cabin and NO RV sites available. If I remember correctly, 10-13 July was about the same.
Sutton had four votes for first choice, one for second choice ond one for third choice.
Loon Lake was first choice for three and second for three. On their maps, it looked like they didn’t have enough space for us in July. But when I tried to look again, I got a different arrangement that was hard to follow, but seemed to have enough space for us—IF we could all get our spaces reserved before others got them. But there were only two RV spots and one tent site. Most of us would have to be in more expensive cabins, motel rooms, yurts, or cabins/cottages. And, again, we’d have to all make our own reservations and do it FAST. And they don’t give refunds if you have to cancel!
Therefore, I reserved TWO weekends in Sutton Loop D and will cancel canceled one of them after more feedback from the family. This is a gift from Doris Sinclair (from the funds Michelle inherited). To decide which one to cancel, I need you to answer BOTH questions:

Did you know that Bill Clinton was elected president by about one out of four eligible voters? Yes, almost half of us didn’t vote. Please answer by phone, e-mail, or comment below. These comments will not be published but I will see them.
Again, this is a GIFT from Doris/Michelle, but Michelle says if you WANT to contribute, you may.
For those who aren’t able to actually camp (like Michelle and me), some suggestions:
Driftwood Shores, Heceta Beach, five miles away, is a rather fancy resort (or so I’m told).
On highway 101, four miles away, there’s a cheaper hotel. Michelle and I stayed there last year and considered it decent but not fancy.
AirBNB, in Florence and Heceta Beach, shows fifteen places from $50 to $125 per night. (111 places from $125 to $770 per night.) Most of these are the whole house or apartment, but maybe ten percent are a room in the host’s house.
The government website says that only two of the eleven sites have electricity. I thought there were more than that. I guess we’ll have to share with extension cords like before. For details on the eleven sites, go to https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campsites/76610 and click on “Site Details.”
Please pass this on to others in the family I may have missed or could not contact. I didn’t have contact info for:
- Dean & Sarah Byers
- Vanessa McGee
- Anna Byers
- Jamie & Jeff
- Nikki McGee
Also, if you know someone in the family living near you doesn’t have internet access, can you print this and show it to them?

The post above is a complete replacement of the earlier one.
