Surprise, surprise!

Do you keep records on what you spend?  My records just gave me a pleasant surprise.

When I filled out my 1040 Schedule A for 2014, I skipped the medical, assuming it would not be over ten percent AGI.  But yesterday, I had to add up all my 2014 medical payments for the V.A. health care I get now.  The total was $3500 more than ten percent!

Since retirement, I have been tracking spending, and I see that I have so far this year spent a quarter of my income on health care.

What this means is this year’s taxes may be about a thousand dollars less than predicted, and if I file amendments to the past three years, probably a $1500 refund.  “Your mileage may vary.”
