Three times this week in prayer or worship, the word “surrender” has come up. An intransitve verb, apparently. But it’s really transitive: I don’t just surrender; I surrender something.
I surrender my expectations of what other people should do or not do. And my opinions of what I think the Holy Spirit is/should be telling them to do.
I surrender any doubt or overconfidence about what He is telling me to do or my ability to do it.
I surrender any right to hang on to the hurts, traumas, and wrongs of the past—including those I’ve committed.
I surrender any right to be proud of (or embarrassed by) personal traits that God has given me.
