Anthropology has come a long way, too.

James Hunt, who coined the word “anthropology” and founded the first anthropological society, wrote in
Anthropological review, Volume 4 (1866), p. 113 (and following):

missionaries … and liberals cordially agree in discarding and even denouncing the truths of Anthropology … because these truths are directly opposed to their cardinal principal of absolute and original equality among mankind.

And a few years later, in
Anthropological review, Volume 7 (1869), p. 100:

Although Eve was made by God as perfect as any of her sex can be, yet is it an undoubted fact that woman is inferior in intellect to man.
